Chester Bennington’s Son Draven Films Spot for Suicide Prevention Week

2017 has brought the topics of mental health and suicide prevention into the spotlight as the music world has lost two of its brightest stars and powerful voices in Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell to suicide in recent months. As part of National Suicide Week, Chester Bennington’s 15-year-old son Draven has filmed a new spot making a pledge to himself and a challenge to others to seek help when feeling depressed.

“I want to make a commitment that I will talk to someone before I hurt myself, when I’m feeling depressed or sad or going through a hard week or month or year,” says Bennington’s son. “And I want to challenge you to do the same, to help yourself, not hurt yourself.”

Cornell passed away in May, with close friend Chester Bennington singing at his funeral. A few months later in July, on Cornell’s birthday, the Linkin Park vocalist committed suicide. The singer had spoken in an interview earlier in the year about his battles with depression.

National Suicide Prevention Week runs from Sept. 10-16. For more information on suicide prevention and things that you can do to bring attention to the subject, check out the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention, the American Association of Suicidology and Each Mind Matters.
